Sofia's playtime

Here is Sofia helping me with making her diapers.

Then she found Black Cat's tail...

Black Cat pondering whether he should stay or go.

He decided to go! She got his foot though in the process and was very happy about that!

Black Cat decides to move further.

No biggie...she found Lactobacillus! Every kid should have plush microbes!!

Then the red bird caught her eye...

Then back to Lactobacillus...he's great!

Puzzle time.

Black Cat again...didn't get far enough!

Studied it for a few minutes.

Puffs! I know this may make me a bad parent to be letting the kid eat off the floor, but we don't wear shoes, and it is going to happen anyway. At least I put edible things down instead of her eating whatever she happens to find!

Yes...this is her new thing...instead of bringing the food to her mouth....she puts her mouth to the food!

Here it is all!! The push up! Hysterical!

Hilarious!

Sofia has a few knew things that are making my days really funny!
#1. She does a full on plank position push up. Not sure if she is preparing for a triathlon or what?
#2. Near the end of her bath she leans over and with her bottom lip in the water and top lip on the side of the tub blows air. It is loud and bubbly and she loves it! She changes pitch and tone! It is hilarious!
#3. Likes to try and make friends with the vacuum...even when it is running! Now I have to position her behind me when I am vacuuming, so there is no accidental mishap. After I am done she half crawls/pulls her way over to it, and hums to it trying to copy the noise it makes I think! Oh my god it is funny!

I am trying to get these moments on camera or video, but so far no luck. The camera and video being pulled out stops all previous activity because these are the really cool toys! hahahhahah

It was a good day!

Well this parenting thing has not been the easiest for me as some of you know. I was really not prepared to be so needed. I sucked it up and did what I thought was right now matter how tired or broken my arms and legs got. I think it has paid off! I finally feel like maybe I have turned the page from what the heck was I thinking (sometimes) to wow this is fun! Hugh shocker!

Note to Grandparents: No this does not mean I will do it again...maybe I will adopt at around 8 months ish...we will see.

Today we went to the Aeon mall that has a Jusco in it....was looking for curtains for our new pad! OMG I am so excited about that! We met with a friend of ours Candice and Sofia's boyfriend Peter. We did not find any good curtains, so we decided to get a bite to eat. We sat in the Japanese style seating, which is actually great when you have a kid...nothing falls on the floor...cause your on it, and there were lots of cushions to play and crawl on...also to take a taste of. Sofia was just cool and calm...I fed her, and then she just played on the floor. There was a couple with a 2 month old that sat in the next area and she was all smiles with them and was crawling over to them...I had to bring her back a few times! It was great though that we have an independent child...what I really hoped for...I would like to think that all the holding and not letting her cry it out has helped make her secure enough to just do her own thing knowing that we are always there for her. Maybe she is just sick of me though! hahahah!
Anyhow today I was so happy with my life and where we are. It is great to be in Japan at this age...everything and everyone are so baby friendly...there is a great love of kids here. It totally rocks!

A Nicole Story - for all of you that have been missing the usual drama!

Well lots happened today...
We have been waiting for Sofia's SS cars so that we can file our taxes and it finally came on Fri. Called Friday, but I think they got the day off for Easter. OK so I call the tax office just in case they are open...YAY they are. So I get Sofia and I ready to leave...no problems..put the Sleep Sheep in the car to see if it would get her to sleep faster...and yes...So she got a pretty good nap.

On the way there was a bird.

It was a fledgling or soon enough it will be that somehow ended up in the middle of the road...no one is stopping and it is just freaked out and hopping around looking for shelter.
My heart broke...I threw it in reverse...pulled into the parking lot to my left and ran out to get the bird. Some lady had cautiously driven over it (uhhhh...just stop before you drive over it..pick it up and at least get it out of the road wtf!) Anyhow. I was going to put it back in a bush or whatever...but it had blood coming out of it's beak...a little. There is a guy filling a vending machine right by where I parked...I ask him for a box and tell him I will take it to a vet. He looks at me smiling...probably thinking "what a crazy Gaijin". Well for that matter probably everyone at the scene was thinking that!
OK so I need to make a side trip to Kadena vet. Real animal lover the lady at the front desk was...she was like "we will just put it to sleep, unless you want to pay for it" I was of course like OK I would pay...so then she seemed irritated that I would even bother her with an injured animal and was like I will have to see if there is even a vet that can deal with birds. I waited...I called the 3 people in my phone book to see if they had the number for Noah Vet...no one answered except Candice...and she didn't have the sacred yellow pages.
(Side note: The Sacred Yellow Pages - Obviously contains Yellow Pages, but also the only half way decent map of the island in English...side side note: there are barely road signs...the way you do it here is "oh yeah do you know where that Lawson or Kanehide is...it is near that" or some other store or place...it is ridiculous sometimes how hard it is to figure out where you are going-) It is issued to you when you get on island...If you lose it you are screwed because they are for some reason hard to get....of course Tom and I found a source - Toma's garage(car repair shop)
Of course my sacred yellow pages were at home...where they should be - tone of sarcasm implied here (uhhh). I am waiting for a while and realize I am like last on the list and they are never going to get to me. I wing it and actually find the Noah Vet right outside the Gate I was at! YAY!
Oh wait...they are closed...defeated again! Dang it!
Ok so I figure if the bird has internal injuries he is going to die anyway...there is nothing anyone can do for him or her, and at least I got it somewhere safe where it can die in peace...on the floor of my front passenger side listening to country music (uhhhhh cause that is all they play on the damn American station).
OK so back on track to get the taxes done. We get to the tax office...I realize it is too hot to leave the bird in the car, so it gets packed into the bottom of the stroller...the box fit just barely. No one asked or maybe they didn't even notice, but there we were in the tax office...getting a refund, Sofia was getting lunch and there is a bird possibly dying along with us.
We finally get home...no issues...bird is still alive. I get a new smaller box with some better cushioning...all I had in the car were 2 cloth diapers used for burp rags. I look online to see what I should do about food for this bird. Well no force feeding recommended and dog food mixed with water has been used in these types of situations. Ok I have some wet cat food. Deer flavor....cause it is kind of wrong to be feeding a bird chicken.
So I put the bird outside for a bit of familiar sounds and fresh air. Still alive. I bring it in for the night and put a heating pad under the box, and turn the lights off and close the door in the office. If not...I am sure Black Cat would find it and that would be the end of the line for sure. I went in to check a minute ago and he is near the food with his beak in it. I hope he can get some of it. I tried to put some on my finger to see if he would open his mouth, and I think I scared him cause he threw up! I quickly left him alone, but at least we know he is at least ok enough to throw up! He was asleep when I went in the time before, so I think he is Ok and maybe just needed to rest a bit. Will take it to the vet tomorrow, as I don't think he can fly yet. Will see what they have to say.
At least there wasn't another MacGyver diaper incident included in this day!

Well it is the next morning and the bird did not make it...I hope at least it was a better death than death by car tire or partial death by car tire.

Puffs!

Since finding her pincer grasp...she is now able to grab food and shove it into her mouth. Her favorite food now is any puff from Plum Organics. I ordered 20 containers today...just to make sure I have enough on hand. I have some video, but can't quite find the time, but will try to post later.
I also diced and steamed some butternut squash, and she was able to pick this up as well. Great now all my purees might be worthless. I try to get in food from a spoon as much as I can, but she has only 50% interest at this point.

Trying!

Well she is thinking about it, but we are not quite yet crawling!

Swim Day!

Well we went swimming a few days ago and had a great time. Sofia liked the water and was really interested in one of the lifeguards and the other children in the pool. The resort is awesome. When Tom gets back I am planning to do the family dolphin encounter there. It looks fun!

All of this packaging for this tiny little pill....is this really necessary?!

Here is a photo from our zoo trip this week. Sofia loves the Merry go Round, so of course I take her for a ride every time we go! This is a foot shot...couldn't resist!

Next we have the picture of Sofia's extracurricular activities...don't know when, but sometime between bedtime and wake up time she untied her bumper...ohh she is going to be a handful this one!

And then finally....who's kid it this? She is so long! Apparently taking after Dad! I remember when she looked so tiny in the bouncer and now her feet are hanging off the end...might soon have to retire it.

Taken for Granted

Sofia has started poking at stuff with her pointer finger. It is so adorable! She is very serious about it, and takes her time to get her finger just right on a little puff or my chocolate wrappers wadded into a small ball...nevermind that (hahhahah), but the thing is it is so new to her and it is such a big step to getting to the pincer grasp that we use for nearly everything. Every day I use my fingers to push buttons or grab things, and I now see that I had taken this for granted. Crazy how the seemingly smallest thing can just change your world!

Swimming Pool?

UHHHHH! I have been on this apparently arduous task of finding a pool for Sofia and I to swim in. See the pool here at Courtney...while not even open until June and it was already 92 degrees on the stroller thermometer yesterday...does not have steps...so I can't quite figure out how I would get in with Sofia sans Tom.
I have checked out the nearest swimming school which is right around the corner and the children have to be 3 years at least. They tell me to check out the Uruma City Recreation Place..Urumin...so I go today, and they do not allow kid's that are not potty trained into the pool. Uhhhh...ok so I have already called a few of the hotels to ask if I can use the pool for the day and no go. Luckily I ran into one of the other moms that lives here in the tower and she tells me to check out the Renaissance....I do. Is that bells chiming and angels singing? Finally!! I just got off the phone with them and we can go for about $13 for the day 9am to 10 pm and parking is free!! YAYAYYAYAYYA! Babies are OK, too! So it is a little pricey, but worth it...at least until I figure out how to get Sofia into the pool here. On the otherhand the place looks really lavish, so I think I can use a little spoiling once a week! It is official then...Wednesday is pool day!

I am now waiting on my new cover me up swimsuit to arrive...Sofia's suit/diaper is already here, and we just received another cute one from Gma P....she is good to go and waiting!

Friday's trip to Children's Land!

Well here we are again...I decided to go every Friday pending the weather is not rainy. Today was beautiful and we saw much more of the park! Sofia fell asleep on the way there....love her awesome new carseat and so does she!

Don't upset the big cats...they will spray you! HAHHAHAH...this is hilarious! I wonder how many people got hit before they made this sign!

We went on our first Merry-go-round ride today, too! Sofia loved it, and of course sampled the horse she was riding with her mouth...oh microbiologist mom was freaking out a little on the inside, but I kept it cool!

Oh and this is Sofia's boyfriend...he is part of the playgroup, and they held hands a few weeks ago while laying on the mat together...awwwww! Tom you should start getting that shot gun collection prepared! HAHAHHAHHA

First cold!

Ok so this is to the lady who brought her dripping snot nosed kid to play group....if your kid is showing signs of a cold do not bring them to playgroup! This snotty kid sneezed, and I was just hoping that it was allergies or teething, but no....we both got sick. We are at the end of it now, but that lady is on my poop list! Made for some interesting photos though...sorry if you are squeamish!

Self feeding

Sofia decided to use the soft toy stamp in a tortilla chip like fashion to scoop up some food recently...it was more like a smear into the food. She then sucked it off the stamp. She also has started grabbing the spoon and shoving it in her mouth. It is pretty funny, but eating takes a little longer these days!

Walmart

Ok so those of you that know me know that I absolutely loath Walmart. So Walmart stuck it to me today! While assessing the bib situation I noticed that one bib still had good velcro grippage. I turn it over to check the label and of course it is the one from Walmart (received as a gift)! Damn you Walmart!! That is OK though because I have upgraded to plastic wipeable ones with a crumb catcher from Kushies! So there Walmart...take that!
